Businesses share networks even with governments. Sharing will continue to be a crucial tool for operators in order to reduce costs drastically, expand coverage, and expand their networks. With fifth-generation (5G) deployments accelerating this trend, capital expenditures may rise significantly in scenarios that require densification. Network sharing is becoming a common option for operators to optimize their rural network spending through more active network sharing and edge computing business models. Across the globe, fiber sharing is becoming more popular as investment returns become less attractive due to overbuilding.
Utilize partners effectively
Suppliers have always laid out operators' plans and independently developed established networks. Operators have succeeded by using agile cross-functional sprints and end-to-end business owners, defining explicit deadlines, and automating quick feedback and testing processes. Softwarization and cloudification require operators to work closely with hyperscalers, system integrators (SI), and SaaS providers. A new governance architecture will ensure that partner expenses and delivery delays do not offset promised gains.

Operators' workforces will need to be able to manage the network functionality in the cloud, whether it is public or private. The operators will be more successful if their operating models match their technology choices, and talent is critical. Until recently, network engineers specialized in radio capabilities planning and RAN optimization, with many other tasks outsourced. With virtualization, differentiation will require a broader range of technological competencies, including platform, automation, and network asset management expertise.
