Customers prefer other means to engage with cellular carriers, such as the web, phone, app, and social media.
Fremont, CA: Consumers no longer choose to visit retail shops to study, update, or purchase cell phones. According to studies, just 25 percent of consumers visit a CSP's physical storefront for product research. In addition, just 31 percent of customers make an in-person transaction. According to telco retail trends data, digital channels are exploding as consumers move their whole customer journey online.

As carrier stores reopen around the country, retail establishments must consider customers' wishes to spend as little time as possible in-store. Shoppers want to view things in person before making a buy. However, CSPs must remember that many consumers prefer to begin their buying adventure online and then complete their purchase in-store – or vice versa.
1. Turn the dial-up on digital
With fewer in-store encounters, CSPs must guarantee that they can provide exceptional customer service through the digital channels that their consumers choose. Consumers explore inventory, seek advice, and make purchases over an average of nine tracks, and they anticipate consistency across all channels. This necessitates CSPs improve shopping by simplifying the journey.
2. Offer in-store appointment booking
Customers visit physical stores for a specific reason, such as to replace a broken phone screen, and want to get in and out quickly. Make it simple for them by providing an effective online appointment scheduling system that allows them to spend less time in-store or waiting in line.
3. Educate and empower retail store associates
Provide shop workers with the tools to guide customers from discovery to purchase. Modern order management and inventory systems provide employees with a real-time view of shop inventory and simplify shifting items across locations. Associates can also easily access consumer preferences, devices, use, and interaction history to customize suggestions. Assist their team in suggesting add-on purchases, such as phone accessories that consumers might see at the checkout counter in a real shop.
Telcos, like other merchants, are witnessing significant changes in customer purchasing behaviors and preferences – and these adjustments are here to stay. CSPs must focus on consumers and become digital-first to remain relevant and competitive.
