Like small cells, DAS enables cellular phones and other wireless devices to function dependably when the current infrastructure cannot offer adequate capacity or coverage.

For these reasons, DAS can enhance tower signals in areas with inadequate cell coverage, resulting in more substantial, more dependable coverage in a particular region.
DAS is also utilized to augment cellular capacity in places like public plazas, sports arenas, and music venues where lots of people congregate. These websites frequently have "spikes" when a sizable amount of data is used simultaneously. A local network can quickly become overloaded in such circumstances. DAS can add sufficient capacity to the current infrastructure to handle spikes in consumption within a region.
DAS, sometimes known as the original small cell, has been around longer than small cells. Both technologies are comparable in size, coverage areas, and power outputs.
But there are significant distinctions between tiny cells and DAS:
Supply
Small cells usually need a separate power supply for each node, whereas DAS uses a single central power source for several nodes.
Cell Organization
While small cells operate as a network of individual cells, DAS can use multiple nodes simultaneously to function as a single, large cell.
Frequency Support
Small cells usually support a specific frequency, whereas DAS can support many frequencies (2G, 3 G, 4G/LTE, 5G, and VHF bands).
Multiple Service Provider Support
Multiple carriers can connect their base stations to the standard RF distribution system by sharing a DAS. Today, most tiny cell technology is single-carrier.
Scalability
A single DAS base transceiver station can vary the power to the antennas to serve up to 1,800 users and give a coverage radius that stretches for several miles. Small cell technology is intended to cover a smaller area and can usually accommodate a few dozen subscribers at once (much like a Wi-Fi access point). Installing extra nodes is necessary to increase coverage.
Backhaul
While a DAS network as a whole only needs one backhaul connection, each small cell needs its backhaul connection to the network source.
Deployment
The main advantages of small cell technology are its reduced upfront costs, ease of design, and ability to be deployed more quickly than DAS.
